He was born in 1964 in Milan, where he lives and works.
He graduated in 1988 with a degree in Philosophy.
In 1988-89 he obtained a Master’s degree in Business Communication.
He is the author of philosophical nonfiction publications, including the volume Dalla parte del cappone, Siena, 1990, analyzed in Ettore Tibaldi’s best seller “Uomini e bestie” (Feltrinelli, 1998, pp. 86-87). With the philosophical short story “Speculandia,” he won the “CISAF Literary Award,” seventh edition, 2013, Turin.
In the field of mystery fiction, he created the figure of Commissario Grandi, the protagonist of eight volumes (Greco&Greco, Milan, 1995-2003). With short stories in this series, some published in magazines, he won awards such as the “Premio Letterario Luciano Lombardi,” fifth edition, 1999, Bellano (CO), and won the “Premio Letterario Pinuccia Sferrazza,” third edition, 2000, Peschiera Borromeo (MI). He wrote a short history of the classic detective story, which was serialized in “Sherlock Magazine” (last installment June 2007).
For more than twenty years he has devoted himself to aesthetics and in particular to the study of Caravaggio’s painting. In this field, in addition to articles published in newspapers and magazines, he wrote the two sections devoted to original works and those of discussed autography in the volume edited by Claudio Strinati, Caravaggio Vero, Scripta Maneant, Reggio Emilia, 2014. Translations: in French, Caravage, Editions Place des Victoires, Paris, 2015; in Slovak, Pradivy Caravage, Ikar, Bratislava, 2019.
“Summa” of his studies is: Caravaggio. Catalog raisonné of autograph, attributed and controversial works, 2 vols., Artstudiopaparo, Naples, 2017, of which a revised and updated English-language edition is in preparation.
In addition to being a Caravaggio specialist, he is a scholar of the Renaissance.

Raffaello. The Prince of the Arts, Priuli and Verlucca, Turin, 2019 (the English edition, entitled Raphael 500, is published by Scripta Maneant, Bologna, 2020).
As the third volume in the series, Priuli and Verlucca published (2020) a new monograph on Merisi: Caravaggio. The Painter of Light.
The monograph Michelangelo (Scripta Maneant, Bologna, bilingual Italian-English edition), which has already come out in the Slovenian (Mladinska, 2020) and Slovak (Ikar, 2021) editions, has recently arrived in bookstores (July 2021).
In preparation is a monograph on Tintoretto.
He has lectured on detective fiction and Caravaggio painting.

Fabio Scaletti is an independent scholar. His opinions are always expressed in an individual capacity, based on personal experiences and studies, having historical and scientific truth as the only goal to be achieved. As such, they cannot be made subject to any conditions. Fees for requested consultations will be paid regardless of the outcome of the consultations and before delivery of the written text, if any. His judgment is, it is reiterated, personal, and his writings are not susceptible to adjustment or accommodation by others.
NB: In 2014, the Paris Court of Cassation affirmed the freedom of the scholar to make a judgment on the authenticity or non-authenticity of a work of art without pressure of legal responsibility, falling under Articles 9 and 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which guarantee freedom of thought and expression. Recent rulings (Court of Rome, 2016, and Court of Appeals of Milan, 2017) have reiterated that, except in cases of willful misconduct or manifest inexperience, the scholar’s evaluation is an activity that falls within the constitutionally guaranteed free expression of thought.
